ARTS CENTER COLUMN: Help show appreciation for our local teachers
Published 3:23 pm Saturday, June 22, 2019
The Colquitt County Arts Center is planning its 3rd Annual Teacher Appreciation Event for July 30, 2019 from 4-5:30pm. Last year’s Teacher Appreciation Event was well received and had an amazing turn out. The first year, 104 teachers attended. Last year we had 168 teachers in attendance. We are growing! We hope to celebrate 200 teachers this year! All of Colquitt County’s certified pre-k through 12th grade teachers are invited to attend.
We hope to, again, offer refreshments and have door prize drawings and goody bags that teachers can fill with supplies collected at the event. We are also offering something new this year. The Arts Center is making great efforts to assist teachers with arts integration and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities throughout the school year. We are creating field trip opportunities that provide arts integration and STEAM activities that revolve around our upcoming exhibits. Tables will be set up with field trip opportunities, information, and instructional materials, which teachers may take back to their classrooms and incorporate into their existing curriculums.
In order to show our love and appreciation and to make this event such a success, we need the community’s support. Your help is appreciated and needed in several areas. Show your love for teachers by donating school supplies or funds to purchase the supplies. Help get the word out about collecting the following items for 200 classroom teachers: color sharpies, dry erase markers, #2 pencils, tissue, Clorox wipes, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, band aids, and notebook paper. Drop off supplies at the Arts Center from 10am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Next, help is needed with the collection of door prizes. If you or your business or organization would like to donate a door prize or gift card, please drop it off at the Arts Center or give us a call so that we can pick it up. Feel free to include your business card or marketing material with your door prize so that we can let teachers and our community members know who provided the wonderful gifts.
Lastly, we encourage community organizations to set up vendor tables and/or offer goodies or supplies at your table. This is a great way to let teachers know about the services you can offer them or the services you can offer students throughout the school year, such as field trip opportunities, after school activities, or services that benefit and support teachers and students in and out of the classroom.
As always, THANK YOU for your support of this very incredible event and for all that you do for the Arts Center, our community, and our teachers. We could not make this event happen without our community coming together to thank teachers.
