VALDOSTA – For the first time, Alzheimer’s Caregiver Time-Out will participate in the Longest Day of Fundraising.

During summer solstice, the day with the most light, activities will take place nationally to “fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s,” according to the Alzheimer’s Association.

“Their theme is the day with the most light is the day we fight,” Ann Walker-Smith, ACTO executive director, said.

ACTO hosts an indoor yard sale, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the Masonic Lodge, 1650 River St. A show will follow 7-9 p.m. with ventriloquist Cole Tucker.

The nonprofit wants to raise $500 to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association. Any surplus will benefit ACTO.

Hot dogs and pulled-pork sandwiches will be sold during the yard sale. Light refreshments will be available during Tucker’s show.

ACTO is participating in the Longest Day of Fundraising to give to Alzheimer’s research, Smith said.

“I see the affect that it has on families. It’s devastating,” she said. “It not only affects the person suffering with Alzheimer’s. The whole family is affected, and so, that is just my passion, and I want to give to Alzheimer’s research.”

Tickets, which are limited to 70, are $20 and available by calling (229) 245-9094 or (229) 563-2435. ACTO board members are also selling tickets.
