Retired educators group announces new officers

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County Retired Educators Association (CCREA) members held their annual banquet on May 13 at the First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie.
The Rev. Jimmy Voyles, pastor of Crosland Baptist Church, presented a devotional at the banquet prior to numerous awards, remembrances, tributes, and recognitions being presented.
Wanda Vickers and Carol Ann Horne presented a tribute in memoriam for CCREA members who passed away, Minnie Mapp, Nadine Oliver, and Dorothy Roberts.
A check for $1,540 was presented to Laura Keith, interim director of the local Colquitt County Food Bank, for funds contributed by CCREA members through the association’s fund raiser “Dollars for Dinners.”
Cora Jean Taylor presented scholarships for $500 each to students from Colquitt County High School who will be pursuing careers in education. The Mildred Rentz Memorial Scholarship was presented to Hannah Caitlin Stevens. The Sarah Mashburn Memorial Scholarship was presented to Amber Lynn Murphy, and a CCREA Education Scholarship was presented to Mary Grace McCoy.
Two CCREA scholarships were presented to Leticia Tillman Walden, who is currently employed at Odom Elementary, and Megan Delane Baker, who currently is employed at Hamilton Elementary School. Both of them are working to obtain higher degrees in the field of education.
Ellen Alderman honored the new CCREA officers for 2019-2020 in an installation ceremony. The officers for the upcoming term are: Julia Dorminey, president, Carol Ann Horne, past president and community service, Ann Adams, secretary, Bobbie Key, treasurer and membership.

CCREA’s next general meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 9 at the Colquitt County Library.
