The John Benning Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colquitt County Arts Center Theater are partnering to present a USO Tribute Show in commemoration of the end of the Vietnam Conflict.
The David Hawkins Band & Friends will be the house band for this performance which will include performances by local talent as USO entertainers. Bob Hope will be present as will Phyllis Diller! The Arts Center Theater has been working on this show for the past few months and has been very successful in recruiting some of the talent for the show, and we want to make sure all talent in the community has the opportunity to participate.
Some of the musical numbers already confirmed are These Boots Are Made For Walking- Nancy Sinatra; Leaving on A Jet Plane-Peter Paul & Mary; We Gotta Get Out of This Place-The Animals; The Letter-The Box Tops, and several more. There will be a meeting on Monday, June 10th from 5-6 PM for anyone interested in being a part of the show.
Most talent will work on their own until the last few weeks prior to the performances will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 9th and 10th at 7 PM and Sunday, August 11th at 2 PM. All tickets will be $15 and Veterans are encouraged to be our guests for the performance of their choice. While tickets will be free to Veterans they will need to be picked up in advance to guarantee seating.
If you are unable to make the meeting and wish to participate just call the Arts Center at 985-1922 for more information.
Proceeds from this production will be evenly shared between the DAR and the Arts Center Theater. The DAR has several other commemorative events and plans in the coming months and the Arts Center Theater is honored to play a small part in recognizing our Veterans and making those events possible.
On another note- the Arts Center is beginning to work on the fall programming scheduled and we are always seeking qualified instructors to help us deliver programs within and through our outreach. Specifically we are looking for a Show Choir Director and arts instructors for outreach programming. We also welcome new instructors in all disciplines including dance, art, music-instrumental and vocal instruction, needle arts- sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, weaving etc., and so much more.
For more information call the Arts Center at 985-1922.
