QUITMAN — Authorities are investigating skeletal remains found over the weekend in Brooks County.

The remains were found Saturday night by a hunting club landowner clearing property off Hickory Head Road near Dixie, said Special Agent in Charge Eric Schwalls of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Thomasville office.

The remains were recovered Sunday morning by Brooks County deputies and GBI agents, Schwalls said.

It’s unknown how long the skeleton was there, he said.

The remains have been taken to the GBI’s crime lab for analysis, Schwalls said.
