MOULTRIE, Ga. — A call has been issued for Quilts of Valor for the fall’s quilt show at the Colquitt County Arts Center. The show is sponsored by John Benning DAR and the Colquitt County Arts Center as a part of the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War.
The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.
There are two parts of the Quilts of Valor exhibit, said Suzanne Leimer, DAR American Heritage Chair and show coordinator.
“We are asking previous recipients of Quilts of Valor to loan us their quilts for the show,” said Leimer. “We are also asking quilters to make Quilts of Valor that can be presented to veterans.”
Quilts of Valor will be presented to veterans at the Opening Reception at the Arts Center on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m
The registration deadline to enter a quilt in the show is Sept. 13. There is no entry fee for Quilts of Valor but there is a $10 registration fee for quilts for the general show. Quilts should be delivered to the Arts Center before Sept. 20.
Registration forms are available at Arts Center or online at www.colquittcountyarts.com. Additional information for making Quilts of Valor can be found at the organization’s website www.qovf.org/make-a-qov or by emailing Leimer at suzqu17@yahoo.com.
If you don’t quilt, you can still participate in this event by making a donation to help cover the cost of making a quilt. According to Leimer, it costs between $175- $200 in materials to make a quilt. For more information on contributing to Quilts of Valor, email Leimer at suzqu17@yahoo.com.
The exhibit will open on Oct. 3 and run through Nov. 4 in the Vereen Gallery at the Colquitt County Arts Center.
The quilt show will be open to the public at no charge.
