MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie woman was jailed Mother’s Day on a felony cruelty charge after a neighbor reported a naked boy with injuries showed up at her residence after he ran from his home while being beaten.

Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Fourth Street Southwest to speak with a woman who reported the boy at her apartment.

“She advised that a 12-year-old juvenile showed up to her residence,” said Moultrie Police Department Lt. Freddie Williams. “The 12-year-old was naked when he showed up. The kid had visible injuries over his body.”

When police spoke with the child he told them that he had been beaten with an extension cord.

Police went to Teegra Owens’ residence where she told them that she had spanked the child because he used her debit card without her permission to make a purchase on a computer gaming site.

Owens forced the boy to undress before “whipping him,” Williams said.

The boy and two other children in the household were relocated with relatives.

Owens, 29, 835 Northside Drive, was charged with first degree cruelty to children. She was still being held Monday at Colquitt County Jail.
