Meth in the mail: 2 charged after packages containing drugs shipped from Mexico
CHATSWORTH, Ga. — Two packages from Mexico that included meth were seized and two people were arrested following an investigation by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office. The packages, which also included other items, weighed approximately 32.6 pounds, including the packaging. Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jimmy Davenport said meth is valued at from $250 to 500 an ounce. He said the meth in the packages is at the state crime lab being evaluated. A press release said the sheriff’s office had worked with agents from the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service during the investigation in March and April. “During this investigation two packages were sent from Mexico to 55 Magnolia Lane, Apartment W, Chatsworth … ,” the press release said. “Contained in these packages were various items that also contained methamphetamine. The total weight of the methamphetamine including packaging is approximately 32.6 pounds … ” Arrested and charged with trafficking in meth were Victor Maldonado and Alejandro Samano, both of Chatsworth. Davenport said no additional arrests are expected in connection with this investigation.
NASA exhibit on display at Lafayette County Library
MAYO, Fla. — A new exhibit at the Lafayette County Public Library is out of this world. The NASA Center for Lunar Science & Exploration’s traveling exhibit, “Meteorites: Messengers of Mayhem” will be on display at the library through Monday. Meteorites reveal the history of impact events in the solar system. Discover how making connections between meteorites and asteroids can help prevent future asteroid impacts on Earth. After Mayo, the exhibit moves to the Taylor County Public Library from May 14-22, and then to the Dixie County Public Library from May 23-31.
