GDOT awards Southwest Georgia resurfacing contracts

TIFTON – The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded $4.8 million in construction contracts to resurface portions of state routes in Lanier, Early and Mitchell counties.

Contracts were awarded earlier this month to the lowest qualified bidder, according to a press release from the state DOT.

One contract to resurface state Route 37 crosses the Lanier/Clinch county line. Clinch County is in Georgia DOT’s southeast district and the project will be supervised by the Waycross office. It starts east of US 129/SR 11 in Lanier County and ends west of US 84/SR 38 in Clinch County. The contract amount is approximately $2.8 million and was awarded to The Scruggs Co.

A $1.6 million contract was awarded to Oxford Construction Co. to resurface US 27 Bu/SR 1 Bu in Blakely/Early County.

SR 270 in Mitchell County will also be resurfaced, from SR 93 in Sale City to the Colquitt County line. The $439,586 contract was awarded to The Scruggs Co.

Construction start dates have not been determined. All projects are scheduled to be complete in early 2020.
