Baby recovering after ingesting medicine

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A 10-month-old Colquitt County boy who was airlifted on Tuesday to a Tallahassee hospital after he ingested a relative’s medication has recovered from the episode and been returned home. Paramedics and police were dispatched at about 3:16 p.m. Tuesday to a residence in the 100 block of Jones Lane where Desja Wilson reported that her son was unresponsive. “He was unresponsive but breathing,” said Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Nathan Cato. The child apparently ingested anti-anxiety medication that belonged to an adult relative who lives in the residence, Cato said. It was identified as busiprone. Wilson told police that she noticed a pill bottle in the room and a short time later could not wake up the boy and that there was a white substance around his mouth. Police are not sure how he was able to ingest the medication. Wilson reported the bottle cap was closed when she saw it, but there were several children in the residence at the time. Paramedics transported the infant to Colquitt Regional Medical Center and from there he was flown to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. “He’s back home,” Cato said. “He’s going to make a full recovery.”

Jasper man killed in Wednesday wreck

JASPER, Fla. — A three-car accident resulted in one death on Wednesday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Theodore Baker, an 84-year-old from Jasper, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 41, approaching the intersection of SE Central Avenue in his 2005 Toyota Camry around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. Eddie McCormick, a 72-year-old from Valdosta, Ga., was traveling directly behind Baker in a 2003 Lincoln Town Car. For reasons still under investigation by FHP, Baker crossed from the center line of Highway 41 and traveled into the direct path of a semi driven by 33-year-old Lorenza Prelow, of Jacksonville, who was traveling south on Highway 41 from the Central Ave. intersection. The report states, the front left of Baker’s vehicle collided with the left rear of Prelow’s semi trailer. According to FHP, a tire set in motion from the initial collision traveled into the direct path of McCormick and struck the hood of his Lincoln Town Car. Baker was transported to Shands Live Oak Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Neither McCormick nor Prelow were injured.
