The body was found Monday morning when a local resident was walking his dog. Suwannee County Sheriff Sam St. John said the man usually walks his dog every morning, but didn’t do so Sunday morning.
St. John said the body, which was wrapped in a gray tarp with bungee cords around it, was just off the road.
“He wasn’t 3-4 feet off the road,” St. John said. “If you ride by, you couldn’t help but see him. So, somebody was either in a big hurry or didn’t care or whatever. They just threw him out there.
“It looked like someone hastily came along, dumped it out and took off.”
Sgt. Murray Smith, the public information officer for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and St. John both said the victim appeared to have trauma on his body.
The body is being taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Jacksonville for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Smith said the body was between SW Loncala Loop off of 256th Street, which is close to Ichetucknee Springs.
