The Georgia Department of Transportation said Monday that traffic is scheduled to shift Tuesday, April 2, weather permitting. Four lanes will be open through Morven, but traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction around Campground Road.

Paving is complete on the northbound lanes, but striping still needs to be done, the DOT said. Final paving is being done on the southbound lanes. Northbound traffic will be traveling in the right/outside lane, though it may be necessary to occasionally shift traffic. Southbound traffic will shift lanes based on the paving schedule. Motorists should be alert for changes in the traffic pattern and are reminded to slow down in the work zone.

This section of SR 133 was originally scheduled to be complete at the end of 2018, the DOT said. The contractor was granted a time extension due to weather delays. At this time the project is expected to be compete around the middle of May, depending on weather. The Scruggs Co. is the contractor and the construction contract amount is $28.4 million.

The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to widen and reconstruct about 66 miles of SR 133 from the Lowndes-Brooks county line to Dougherty County. The work was divided into 10 projects. Work started on the south end of the route and four of those sections are complete.

The public can look up information on the remaining projects by going to www.dot.ga.gov/BS/Projects/ProjectSearch and searching the project identification numbers. Those are 0015478, 0000520, 0000519, 0000475 and 0000473.

The SR 133 corridor is in the Governor’s Road Improvement Program (GRIP), a system of economic development highways.
