Chief of Police Keith Sandefur said additional charges are pending in the case.

Officers responded to a domestic dispute Friday afternoon at 161 13th Ave. SW at 1:15 p.m.

According to a press release from Sandefur, a family member contacted police stating White fatally shot his brother Travis, 33, following an argument and then fled the scene with a firearm.

GBI agents later found White unarmed on the property of Monrovia Growers. The suspect was then transported to the Grady County Detention Center where he was detained.

Sandefur said a K9 unit recovered an undisclosed model of firearm Friday, but it has not been determined if it was the same weapon used in the shooting.

Southside Elementary and Cairo High schools were locked down until shortly before 3 p.m. as police, sheriff’s deputies and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations searched the area for the suspect.

The police chief said law enforcement is still investigating what led to the argument which resulted in Travis White’s death.
