CONNIE FRITZ: Arts Center to celebrate Earth Day
Published 5:19 pm Friday, March 29, 2019
- Every side of these foam sculptures is colored with a different design! Students ages pre-K through second grade created these 3D masterpieces in Kathy Nelson’s Mixed Media class at the Colquitt County Arts Center. From left are Wyatt, Elijah, Samuel, Parks and Lucas. Nelson will be teaching a different sculpture class April 30: Teaching families to create using up-cycled wood.
In honor of Earth Day, April 22, the Arts Center is offering a variety of remix, recycle, re-purpose, and up-cycle classes during the month of April. We’ll take advantage of Mother Nature’s beauty in a couple of our classes and give you a change to up-cycle some of your things in the others. These projects are open to children and adults; however we do ask that children have an adult present to assist them as needed.
So grab a friend or engage your family in an Earth Day project that you’ll cherish for years to come. Workshops will be offered each Tuesday in April and each workshop is $25 person.
April 9: Jewelry Assemblage
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Questions and concerns regarding pressing flowers can be emailed to kimazzilli@gmail.com.
April 23: Recycled Wood Block Sculpture
6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Instructor: Kathy Nelson
Create a sculpture that will be a conversation piece in your home while you make memories up-cycling wood with your family. We’ll provide the wood blocks and the paint for your re-purposed wood sculpture.
