Woman arrested for first-degree cruelty to children
DALTON, Ga. — A Rocky Face woman was arrested on Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office for cruelty to children in the first degree. Tammy Mary Webb, 29, had been indicted by a grand jury in November of 2018. The indictment said Webb caused a child under the age of 18 “cruel or excessive physical or mental pain” by striking the child, “causing extensive bruising to his body.” According to a sheriff’s office incident report, on Sept. 27, 2018, a detective was “advised” by a sergeant to meet with the Division of Family and Children Services about a “juvenile child that had numerous bruises on his leg,” resulting in an investigation. Webb was still in the county jail as of Wednesday evening and had a property bond of $35,000.
Abraham Baldwin to host 2019 TWS Southeastern Wildlife Conclave
TIFTON, Ga. — A total of 359 students from 12 states and 21 colleges and universities from across America will compete in contests ranging from archery to fishing at The Wildlife Society’s Southeastern Wildlife Conclave on March 21-23 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Students will participate in a variety of 18 activities, which include art, intellectual, and physical competitions. Intellectual competitions include dendrology, orienteering, lab practical, museum study skin preparation, GIS practical, and field estimations. Physical competitions include shotgun, archery, air rifle, fishing tournament, canoeing, and an obstacle course. In the art competition, students can participate in wildlife photography, landscape, freeform, drawing and field photography. ABAC students will not participate in the Conclave since they will be serving as hosts for the event.
Man charged after hitting utility poles
RANCHETTES, Fla. — A Lake City man was charged with reckless driving after hitting several utility poles in an accident Wednesday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 27-year-old John Biansco was heading east on 216th St. near 57th Road around 10:20 p.m. when he swerved left, causing Stephen Myers to stop in the westbound lane to avoid a crash. The FHP report states Biansco then ran into four utility poles with the front of his 2018 Ford F150 before stopping after hitting the last pole. When the first two poles broke, the wires fell onto the Dodge Promaster van of Myers, a 67-year-old from Lake City. Biansco fled the scene and has been charged with reckless driving as well as leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license. He sustained minor injuries that were treated at Lake City Medical Center. Myers was not injured in the crash.
