LHS 2019 football schedule

MAYO, Fla. — The Lafayette Hornets now know nine of their 10 opponents for the 2019 football season.

Some notable changes include the addition of Hamilton County, who was a familiar opponent as the two teams used to battle in district play, and having Dixie County on the regular season schedule instead of in the Kickoff Classic.

“I feel like we have a schedule we can be competitive with, yet give us a chance to get into the playoffs,” said Hornets coach Joey Pearson. “Most of our normal rivals — Branford, Trenton, Bell — are there and we’ve added some new teams.

“Hamilton should be a great game. Dixie County, with us being the same region, will probably be a crucial game as far as seeding. We have them (Dixie County) and Branford back-to-back, which are two physical games.”

Week 3 will certainly be a challenge as Lafayette travels to face a Chiefland team that finished 10-2 a season ago. Chiefland defeated LHS 37-14 in 2018.

The Hornets will host Brookwood and Cedar Creek Christian (Jacksonville) and travel to Tallahassee to face Maclay.

Of its nine scheduled opponents, Lafayette has an all-time winning record against five of those teams. The Hornets own a 35-1 record against Bell and a 44-22-3 mark against Branford. LHS owns a slight edge against Trenton, but has a losing record against Chiefland, Dixie County and Hamilton County.

Lafayette is 3-0 against both Brookwood and Maclay and 1-1 versus Cedar Creek Christian.
