MOULTRIE, Ga. – Colquitt Regional Medical Center recently acquired a specimen radiography system that will allow for on-the-spot inspection of biopsied breast and core tissue. The Kubtec XPERT® 40, also known as “Kubbie,” is a mobile, self-contained, shielded cabinet X-ray system.
The Kubbie will primarily be used during breast surgeries that involve the removal of cancerous tissue. During these procedures, the unit is transported outside the operating room and plugged into a power source. After placing the tissue inside the 8-inch-by-8-inch chamber, an X-ray image can be viewed in as little as 30 seconds to one minute. This technology provides high-resolution, high-contrast images that allow up to 2.3X magnification to detect even the smallest abnormalities, the hospital said in a press release.
Having this portable technology on hand significantly reduces the time that physicians wait for biopsy results, and in turn, decreases the amount of anesthesia administered to the patient during the waiting period, the hospital said.
“The XPERT® 40 has been a huge asset to our pathology and radiology departments,” said Colquitt Regional CEO Jim Matney. “The portability and quick turnaround makes this device user-friendly and allows our physicians to provide faster results for patients.”
Other noteworthy benefits of this device include a full suite of on-screen annotations for sending and saving notes for further examination, a 21-inch LCD touchscreen monitor, and it uses the most common specimen containers to reduce cost and preserve specimen integrity for pathology.
“Having this cutting-edge technology, along with other top-notch equipment such as SAVI Scout (a new device that revolutionizes breast biopsy procedures) and the da Vinci robotic surgical system, shows that Colquitt Regional is dedicated to exceptional healthcare through acquiring and implementing innovative technologies,” said Hospital Authority Chairman Maureen A. Yearta, Ed.D.
Colquitt Regional is a 99-bed medical center located in Moultrie, GA. The latest “A” Hospital Safety Score designation from The Leapfrog Group names them as one of the safest hospitals in the nation.
