Bass begins career with Valdosta law firm

Courtney Smith Bass of Moultrie was recently sworn in as a member of the Georgia bar by Superior Court Judge Andrew Spivey at the Ware County Courthouse.

VALDOSTA, Ga. — Moultrie resident Courtney Smith Bass has begun her jurisprudence career following her graduation from law school.

Bass has joined Langdale Vallotton law firm in Valdosta as an associate attorney. Her practice includes estate planning, probate, business and corporate law, commercial real estate, residential real estate, secured lending and a wide variety of other matters.

She was sworn in as a member of the Georgia bar by Superior Court Judge Andrew Spivey at the Ware County Courthouse recently.

Bass obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2018, where she graduated magna cum laude and ranked in the top 10 of 196 students in the 2018 graduating class.

Bass is a native of Waycross, Georgia, and is the daughter of Drs. Matt and Page Smith. She credits her achievements to her parents and the values they instilled in her at an early age.

She also credits her husband, Landon Bass, for his unwavering support during her law school career. Bass received her undergraduate degree in journalism and public relations from the University of Georgia, where she graduated summa cum laude in 2015, with a GPA of 3.97. While at UGA, she served on the executive council of her sorority (Zeta Tau Alpha), worked as a PR intern at UGA’s Office of the Vice President for Instruction, and served as a tutor and mentor in the Athens community through an organization called Whatever It Takes UGA.

During law school, Bass participated in the Prosecutorial Justice Program and gained valuable experience through an internship with Justice Michael P. Boggs of the Georgia Supreme Court, who she cites as a personal inspiration and role model. She received the CALI Award for Excellence, given to the student with the highest grade in the class, in “Evidence” and “The Law and Ethics of Lawyering.”

She was also recently nominated for induction into the Order of the Coif Honor Society.

Bass moved to Moultrie in November, following her marriage to Moultrie native Landon Bass, who is the son of Stanley Bass and Lee Bass.
