Nominations sought for school makeover program
DALTON, Ga. — Georgia United Credit Union Foundation is now accepting nominations for its sixth annual “School Crashers” program. Community residents, educators, students and businesses are encouraged to recommend a Georgia school that would benefit from a facility improvement project. Nominations will be accepted through March 31 at gucufoundation.org. The top winner will be announced on May 7. School improvement projects, also known as “crashes,” are funded by the Georgia United Foundation and are performed by Georgia United Credit Union team members, community partners, sponsors and community volunteers. Nominated schools must be an accredited public or private elementary, middle or high school in Georgia. The school named as the top winner will be chosen based on a compelling 250-word statement explaining why the school deserves a makeover. Supporting photos illustrating the area(s) in need of improvement are strongly encouraged. Project requests for structural, electrical, or plumbing enhancements will not be considered. ,The “School Crashers” program has provided 33 school makeovers totaling more than $1 million in improvements over the last five years. Last year, Coker Elementary School in Chatsworth received a “mini-crash” that included new playground equipment, a newly poured concrete basketball pad and landscaping totaling $42,000 in improvements.

LOAG art displayed at NFCC
MADISON, Fla. — The Live Oak Artist Guild was recently invited to display some of its work at North Florida Community College. Lisa Thompson, the art instructor and gallery director at NFCC extended the invitation and several of the artists responded. The college held a reception for the contributing artists on March 7 at the Hardee Art Center on campus. Each artist gave a short presentation about their art and themselves to the audience. The current show extends through March 28. Thompson was invited to judge the guild’s Autumn Artfest show held last September in Live Oak and was so impressed by the work that she invited the group to exhibit at the Hardee Center. She is very grateful to the Live Oak Artist Guild for sharing its work with NFCC. She said the exhibit displays a wide variety of two dimensional media and the level of talent was impressive. LOAG members are an extraordinary talented group of artists, a couple of whom have held workshops and art talks to students at the college. North Florida Community College is located at 325 NW Turner Davis Drive in Madison. The Hardee Art Center is located in building 11. For more information, call 850-973-1642.
