Georgia Genealogical Society to meet in Moultrie

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy Library is excited to welcome the Georgia Genealogy Society to Moultrie on Saturday, March 16.

The group will meet in the newly renovated Moultrie Library. This will be the first quarterly meeting of the society in 2019 and in keeping with their mission to raise the bar for genealogical research in the state of Georgia their speakers will concentrate on “Hometown Research.”

Donna Weathers, a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), will discuss “Planning Your Research Trip: Tips and Strategies for Planning Research Trips to the Old Hometown.” Weathers has more than 20 years of experience with genealogy research. Her service specialty is in research planning.

“Put Some Meat on those Bones! Telling the Story of an Ancestor” will be presented by Rosemary Cantrell, a member of the Genealogical Speakers Guild. She developed an interest in genealogy while in high school. She was the 2015 Volunteer of the Year for the Genealogy Study Group in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Larry W. Thomas began researching his family’s genealogy over 30 years ago and has been researching professionally for nine years. Thomas will talk about “Researching in Rural Georgia Courthouses.” He is the president of the Cobb County Genealogical Society and a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

Staff members of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Library System will present “The Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy Library through the Years.” All participants will be invited to tour the library and spend time doing personal research.

Pre-registration is highly recommended. Fees are $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Postal registrations must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, March 6.  PayPal registrations are due by midnight, Tuesday, March 12. Handouts are guaranteed to those who register by the above deadlines. A late fee of $5 will apply and a handout is not guaranteed for late registration.
