MOULTRIE, Ga. — Three teen-agers arrested Thursday remain in jail on assault charges in a Feb. 27 attack after hours at the Colquitt County High School sports complex.

Deputies were dispatched at about 8:20 p.m. that night to a report of an assault involving a gun in a parking lot at the Packer Park Sports Facility, 105 Doc Darbyshire Road.

There, they found three victims, one of whom had been attacked by one of the trio who confronted them, said Sgt. Katrina Johnson of the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the attackers, identified by police as Freddy Trejo or Freddy Trejo-Perez, started a fight with one of the victims during which the victim was bitten, choked and punched, Johnson said. The victims were at the park playing soccer, and the suspects reportedly heard they were there and went to the location to confront them.

After that attack ended a second teen-ager, identified by police as Christopher Rivera Jr., got involved.

“Right after the fight took place Christopher Rivera approached the victim of the fight and the other two victims with a gun,” she said. “He placed it to the head of one of the victims and to the upper torsos of the other victims.”

Rivera also is accused of threatening to shoot the three victims.

“The commotion was heard by baseball coaches who ran from the baseball field to the parking lot,” Johnson said. “When the offenders saw them heading towards them, they fled the scene.”

On Thursday morning officers located Rivera, Trejo-Perez and his brother Neil Immanol Trejo, as well as two cars thought to have been those in which the assailants fled the previous night.

Police impounded the cars and obtained a warrant from a judge to search them, Johnson said, and during that search officers found a replica pistol.

“The weapon was a BB gun replica of a Beretta 9 mm,” she said. “But the assault occurred during the nighttime hours, so the victims could not tell it was not a real weapon.”

Rivera 19, 803 Smith Road, was charged with three counts each aggravated assault and terroristic threats and acts, and one count each possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm on school property.

Trejo-Perez, 19, 141 S. Academy St., Funston, and Trejo, 19, 1204 Fifth St. S.W., were each charged with one count aggravated assault.

All three of the teens have had initial hearings before a Colquitt County Magistrate Court judge during which bond was denied. They remained jailed on Wednesday.

The Feb. 27 incident may have been a retaliatory attack related to an incident that occurred last year, Johnson said.

“Our understanding is there had been an incident between Freddie Trejo and one of the victims toward the end of last year,” she said. “We were told around Halloween an assault had occurred between (him) and one of the victims.”
