Ukuleles available from the Moultrie Library

- Patrons of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Library can learn to play the ukulele, thanks to a grant from the Georgia Music Foundation.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Moultrie-Colquitt County Library System is thrilled to announce “Uke” Can Do It @ the Library.
MCCLS was recently awarded a $2,000 grant from the Georgia Music Foundation to fund this project, which will be used to purchase 20 soprano ukulele kits for circulation and for use in outreach and in-house library programs.
Each kit will include a Kala Makala soprano ukulele, soft gig bag case, tuner, and a copy of “Ukulele Primer for Beginners” book and instructional DVD. The kits will be available for checkout by library cardholders oaver the age of 18, and must be checked out from and returned to the Moultrie Library.
Outreach workshops for kids will begin in March. MCCLS will partner with the R.D. Smith Youth Center and Moultrie-Colquitt County YMCA PrimeTime to offer workshops that will cover ukulele basics such as holding the ukulele, strumming, and learning the basic chords necessary to play popular songs such as “The Hokey Pokey” and “You are My Sunshine.”
Future programs will include in-house workshops for kids, teens, and adults, and a once-monthly ukulele club.
