LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Mayor of Port St. Joe grateful for Colquitt County support after hurricane

Published 2:27 pm Saturday, February 23, 2019

I am Bo Patterson, Mayor of Port St. Joe, Fla. I personally want to give a heartfelt thanks to the citizens of Moultrie and Colquitt County for providing the most needed supplies during the disaster following Hurricane Michael. Port St. Joe was devastated with many home and businesses totally destroyed. Many homes were left with 4 feet of water in the homes making them unlivable. Blue tarps covered our city and condemned homes were everywhere. Thousands have lost not only their homes but also their jobs … lt was a very difficult time.

I want to thank Mr. Jim Lowry and my assistant Mr. Mike Akin for acting as coordinators between the distribution center of Port St. Joe and the supply donations coming out of Moultrie and Colquitt County. I want to thank the following for their unselfish assistance: The Moultrie Observer for publishing weekly the 5 most needed supplies, The First Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church and Trinity Baptist for acting as community collection points; Broad Leaf Trucking and Phillip & Steadman Taylor for delivery services to Distribution Center; Fred Rossman, Ronnie Reagan and Charles Law for bring the first hurricane wagon of needed supplies to Port St. Joe; The Heritage Church and the church pickup centers for recognizing Halloween and providing hundreds of costumes and Mrs. Diane Lowry for making a special trip to get the costumes to the local children in Port St. Joe before Halloween. The merchants of Port St. Joe . normally provide a trick or treat night downtown; this year the event was held at the Port St. Joe Elementary School and was a great success.
