LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Feral cat problem not being addressed
Published 10:42 am Thursday, February 21, 2019
I attended February’s Humane Society board meeting at the hospital. I was the only person that was not a board member in attendance.
I stressed that every shelter was full in a 30 mile radius as 5 more 2 week old kittens were brought in that morning that were also at the board meeting — which I bought formula and bottles for — and that the next morning I was off to southwest Florida with 4 kittens I rescued behind a fast food restaurant and 2 more from the Publix parking lot that needed further socialization.
I stressed that stitches in Camilla was also discontinued which has created the feral cat-kitten population to get worst — which I personally have been working on with no help or assistance.
Today I sighted a young yellow tabby all wet, sneezing from being out in the cold and rain, and my attempts to catch this animal were not successful. I asked the Humane Society Tuesday if the board came to some decision about re-enacting the feral program. What’s the delay with every shelter full and kitten season right around the corner? What’s to even think about? Any idea?
