Black history observance
Evangelist Chrystal Brown of Moultrie will be the guest speaker at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Citadel of Hope Church of God in Christ, 805 W. Central Ave.
The theme for the program is Black History Observance. The Youth Department will perform a play, along with songs and praise.
Everyone is welcome. Refreshment will be served.
Pastor is Bishop Larry L. Shaw, and assistant pastor is Barry D. Clark.
Rec Authority
The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority will hold a work session at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the administrative office, 1020 Fourth St. S.W., to cover pool renovations and other upcoming projects.
Remembrance Day
ALBANY — A Remembrance Day for Ola Mae Quarterman, “The Mother of the Albany Civil Rights Movement,” will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the Albany Civil Rights Institute, 326 W. Whitney Ave., in Albany.
Guest speaker will be the Rev. Henry Mathis, associate pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Albany.
Quarterman, who died April 19, 2007, was an 18-year-old student at Albany State College when she refused to give up her seat on an Albany Transit bus, sparking a bus boycott and earning her the nickname, “Albany’s Rosa Parks.”
Memorial service
The public is invited to a memorial service in loving memory of Bernice Guiden Tumblin at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Willow Grove Word of Faith Church, located on 721 Sixth Ave. N.W., Moultrie. Special friends and guests will be in attendance.
