MOULTRIE, Ga. — Two Moultrie-area women got a special visit from a neighbor this past weekend.
Pink Heals, a charity based in Tifton, visited Dixa Turner and Glenda Bentley in a combined effort with the Moultrie Fire Department, Funston Fire Department and the Colquitt County EMS as they all pitched in to make Saturday a day these women wouldn’t forget.
Pink Heals is a non-profit organization that was founded by Dave Graybill in 2007 built on the simple idea of bringing public safety officers together to fundraise and keep the money in their own community. The program repurposes fire trucks and other public safety vehicles in order to make home visits to people in need and support fundraising efforts at a local level. Known for their bright pink fire trucks they look to spread cheer to those who need it in the community.
The Tifton chapter of Pink Heals has a 50-mile radius which means they make trips to the Moultrie/ Colquitt County regularly. They’ve been active for only a year, but the Tift County chapter has become one of the fastest growing chapters, according to Richard Satterwhite, an executive board member.
“We try to do a lot for the community,” Satterwhite said. “We are the people’s charity. We are there for the people, we keep all our money in our community, and all the donations that come to us stay with us. We have only been here for a year and we are growing so much. It’s a huge honor to be part of something like this in the community.”
