LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Grand Ole Opry show returns for veterans
Published 1:40 pm Saturday, January 26, 2019
The Public Issues Committee of the Moultrie Federated Guild is sponsoring a benefit performance by Colquitt County’s version of the Grand Ole Opry. Proceeds from this event will go to our local Colquitt County veterans’ bus ministry and activity effort.
This is not to be confused with the generous actions and work done by Mr. Robert Hutson a few months back. Mr. Hutson’s project resulted in the purchase of a van that is now owned by the Veterans Hospital in Lake City, Florida. This van operates out of Hahira and Valdosta, GA. and has filled a tremendous need for veterans seeking medical treatment in Lake City. On occasion, some of our Colquitt County veterans will travel to Lowndes County to ride this van because our local bus only runs once a week. Mr. Hutson’s efforts have benefited many veterans in need of medical treatment, and we greatly appreciate his hard work.
The Colquitt County veterans’ bus provides the only means of transportation for many of our local veterans in need of critical and ongoing medical treatment. This bus operates weekly and also assists with transportation for veterans in Thomas, Brooks, and Lowndes counties. In addition to transportation, our veterans are also provided breakfast and lunch for the day-long trip to the Veterans Hospital. Proceeds from the benefit will assist with some of the weekly operations and expenses involved with this ministry and will allow our local veterans to begin a fund that will make the purchase of a newer bus possible in the next few years.
We are extremely grateful for the service and sacrifices our veterans and present-day military have made and continue to make. Their bravery and courage provide the freedom this great country enjoys today. But we must always remember this freedom comes with a price. Our veterans and armed forces deserve our respect and support. We are not asking for any donation other than the price of the admission ticket for the Grand Ole Opry style show at Withers Auditorium on March 2. Please help us say thanks to the brave men and women who made tremendous sacrifices that allow us to live in a free United States of America.
Thank you.
