Public Health offers tips for septic systems struggling with excessive rain

ALBANY, Ga. — Recent rainy weather has caused septic systems of some property owners to experience seasonal failure, but local Public Health officials have recommendations that can help. “There are a number of things a homeowner can do to alleviate the symptoms,” said Southwest Health District Environmental Health Director Justin Smith. “One is to reduce water usage. Another is to install a curtain or French drain to divert subsurface water.” Other tips include landscape alterations to divert surface water and pumping the tank to provide relief. Camera Club invites new camera owners to meeting

BRANFORD, Fla. — With Christmas over and some new camera owners around, the Branford Camera Club invites them to its January meeting. The meeting, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Hatch Community Center, 403 Craven St., will be focused on learning about one’s new camera. Members of the club will also be enjoying dinner prior to the meeting at Our Place Pizzeria at 5:30 p.m. The club encourages new camera owners wishing to attend to read through their camera’s manual prior to the meeting, even if it doesn’t completely make sense. The club also said camera owners should make sure and fully charge the battery, install it as well as install the lens and SD card and then return to the manual to learn about the various settings on the camera. According to the club, those attending the Jan. 17 meeting should also be prepared to start their photography adventures. The Branford Camera Club is an informal and eclectic group, which shares an interest in and an enthusiasm for all things photographic, encompassing all levels of expertise from avid beginner to consummate professional.
