VALDOSTA — Discovery Outpost is on schedule to be completed by the start of the 2019 Wild Adventures Theme Park season.
The three-acre kids area was announced in September, and construction began Oct. 1.
Foundations for buildings and rides have been set up, and the alligator pool in Alligator Alley is dug up. The restroom for the area is also near completion.
Guests will be able to tour the new section when the park reopens March 9. The park closed for the season Sunday, Dec. 30.
“It’s just going to be a fun and unique place and a great way to start your day when you come visit Wild Adventures,” said Adam Floyd, the park public relations manager. “We’re really happy to see the progress we’ve made so far.”
Inside Discovery Outpost, guests will find Alligator Alley, home and a pool for the park’s American alligators, and Gator Bridge, a 21-foot-long and seven-foot-tall bridge that will go over part of the pool.
There will be six rides in Discovery Outpost: Swamp Train, Flying Gators, Turtle Twist, Swampwater Snake, Hoppin’ Gator and Okefenokee Friends.
The $2.5 million project is one of the largest projects the park has put in place in the last decade, according to a statement from Wild Adventures.
“2019 is going to be a really big year for us,” Floyd said.
