Two Branford women killed in crash

BELL, Fla. — Two Branford women were killed in a two-vehicle accident Monday evening south of Bell.
Sonja Woodcock was headed north on U.S. Highway 129 near County Road 307 in between Bell and Trenton around 6:20 p.m. when her vehicle entered into the southbound lane and struck an oncoming vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to the FHP report, both Woodcock, a 59-year-old from Branford, and her passenger, 67-year-old Sandra Gamel, also of Branford, were killed in the accident. They were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
Woodcock was wearing a seatbelt, while Gamel was not.
George Shenefield, a 70-year-old from Archer, was the driver of the other vehicle and sustained minor injuries, the FHP report states. He was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville for treatment.
According to FHP, the role, if any, alcohol played in the crash, is currently unknown.
U.S. 129 was shutdown for several hours Monday evening as the crash was being investigated.
