Police seek help in finding jewelry thief
DALTON, Ga. — The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who stole more than $200 worth of jewelry from an area store. The theft was recorded by store surveillance. The theft happened on Dec. 4 at the Hobby Lobby store on East Walnut Avenue. The suspect, a white male, entered the store around 2 p.m. He went into the jewelry section and spent several minutes trying to remove items from a jewelry display. After being unable to remove the items from the display, he eventually removed the display rack hangers themselves. The suspect then left the store, getting away with approximately $220 worth of a variety of rings, earrings and necklaces. The suspect is a white male who wore a camouflage baseball hat, a dark shirt and a gray jacket. Valdosta kindergartner wins chemistry prize
VALDOSTA, Ga. — W.G. Nunn Elementary School kindergarten student Olivia Conley recently won first place in the K-2 division of the National Chemistry Week Illustrated Poem Contest sponsored by the Valdosta State University chapter of the American Chemical Society. The theme of the contest was ‘Chemistry Is Out of This World!’ W.G. Nunn Principal Wade Beale presents Olivia Conley with her certificate and a $50 check from the Valdosta State University chapter of the American Chemical Society.
Christmas Under the Oaks to be held Saturday
MAYO, Fla. — This year’s Christmas Under the Oaks festival and parade will be held Saturday. The parade will start at 6 p.m. and go down Main Street. The theme is “Reason for the Season.” Christmas Under the Oaks will be held in the Veterans Memorial Park following the parade. The Christmas tree lighting will be held at 7 p.m. The children will be able to visit with Santa Claus. Hot chocolate and chili will be available for purchase and a few vendors will be set up.
