The victim was identified Tuesday afternoon as 33-year-old Tiara Napier, of Milledgeville, according to Milledgeville Police Department Public Information Officer Felicia Cummings.

Napier was wounded by someone with a gun while she was attending a party in the auditorium of the Warren Hawkins American Legion Post 523, which is located at 430 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Cummings said police had not made an arrest in the case, and that no witnesses had come forward to talk about the shooting as of this time.

“Detectives are working leads,” Cummings told The Union-Recorder following a series of questions posed to police about the shooting via email. “It remains an open investigation.”

The shooting reportedly happened shortly before 1 a.m. Friday.

It just so happened that Milledgeville Police Officer J.D. Allen was riding by the American Legion Post at the time, according to an incident report. The officer said in his report that he was checking the building and that someone later told him someone had been shot inside.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Milledgeville Police Department at 478-414-4000.
