Work to begin soon on replacing bridge on Highway 61 in Murray County

CHATSWORTH, Ga. —  Work could begin soon on replacing the bridge on State Route (SR) 61 over the CSX Railroad in Murray County. The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to Summers-Taylor Inc. of Elizabethton, Tennessee, valued at over $4 million for a construction project to replace this bridge, just south of unincorporated Tennga. The project includes 0.313 mile of construction of a bridge and approaches on SR 61 over the CSX Transportation Railroad. The old bridge was built in 1962. Due to the poor condition of the bridge deck and the substructure, it was recommended by Georgia DOT inspectors for replacement. This bridge replacement project is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2020 at a construction cost of $4.036 million. Information on construction and lane closure schedules on this project will be forthcoming before work begins.
