LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Less fright when economy doing well

October typically ushers in thoughts of the macabre, but this year it’s been hard to get into the Halloween spirit. With a booming economy, lower taxes, and the tightest labor market in years, what’s there to be afraid of?
This month saw another stellar jobs report with unemployment coming in at a 49-year low. In fact, fewer Americans than ever know someone who is out of work. What’s so spooky about that?
Even better, a recent poll found that consumer confidence has continued to rise. As a small business owner myself, I know firsthand that when customers feel confident putting their money back into the economy, businesses like mine do better. This means we can create more jobs and give our hard-working employees well-deserved raises.
But with midterms right around the corner, all of the economic growth we’ve seen could become a thing of the past. Pro-business policies like tax cuts, Associated Health Plans, and general deregulation could be completely rolled back if voters aren’t careful.
Now that’s a scary thought.
