North Murray (5-4, 4-3 in Region 6-3A) fell to Lakeview- Fort Oglethorpe at home, 19-9, and Poag said the loss was a reflection of everything his players did not do right.

“We got beat. That’s just it,” he said. “We are making the same mistakes over and over again. We had too many penalties on offense that put us behind the sticks, and on defense were missing blocks. It was a combination of a lot of different things.”

Score for the Mountaineers came from on a 1-yard quarterback sneak from Preston Poag and a 24-yard field goal from Owen Hannah.

The Mountaineers play at Sonoraville next Friday with the winner claiming the No. 4 in region and a spot in the playoffs.

Poag said preparation starts during the week.

“We have to be more physical at practice,” he said. “It hurts. Everyone is hurting. But, we have to turn around and forget about it. Nobody is going to feel sorry for you.”

The Coahulla Creek Colts threatened to upset Sonoraville on its Homecoming night, but couldn’t get the job done as they fell on the road Friday, 19-8.

The Colts trailed, 10-0, at halftime and coach Caleb Bagley said it was all business in the locker room.

“I think they are realizing how close we are to turning the corner,” he said. “We moved the ball well in the first quarter, but we shot ourselves in the foot. We were trying to figure out what we could do to get the job done.”

Bagley said his players continued to fight in the second half as they put together a scoring drive in the fourth quarter. Cade Bates found Dylan Carlock on fourth-and-long to set up a 2-yard rushing touchdown from freshman running back Tyler Locklear.

Carlock caught the 2-point conversion from Bates.

The Colts attempted an onside kick, but it fell in the hand of Sonoraville as it regained possession and ran the clock out.

“They kids played extremely hard,” Bagley said. “We are still not quite there yet. The good thing about it is that there are a lot of teachable. We are going to suit up and get ready for one more.”

Coahulla Creek travels to Ringgold next Friday.
