19-year-old charged in deadly shooting

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie teen-ager has been arrested in the death of a 16-year-old girl who died of a gunshot wound on Oct. 16.

Semaj Willis, 19, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and reckless conduct in connection with the death, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Moultrie police were dispatched at 5:33 p.m. Oct. 16 to a residence in the 1200 block of 12th Avenue Northwest. The Moultrie Police Department requested the GBI’s assistance in the investigation.

Jakayla Anderson died of a gunshot wound to the head, Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock told The Observer on the day after the shooting.

Anderson was at Willis’ residence when the shooting took place, the GBI said in a Monday morning news release.

The GBI said that no additional information related to the incident is being released at this time and that the case remains under investigation.
