THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Southern Regional Technical College will commemorate National Respiratory Care Week, Oct. 21-27, at its Thomasville campus.
Anyone with a diagnosed lung disorder has likely worked with a registered respiratory therapist (RRT). These women and men are specialized healthcare practitioners who are trained in pulmonary medicine, according to SRTC. Respiratory therapists work with and teach patients who suffer from lung disorders to manage their activities of daily living in order to ensure adequate oxygenation and ventilation. RRTs conduct Pulmonary Function Testing as well as other cardiopulmonary assessments required for the diagnosis and management of cardiopulmonary diseases.
SRTC’s Respiratory Care program faculty and students invite the public to join the celebration of National Respiratory Care Week by attending the following free events at Southern Regional Technical College’s Thomasville Campus:
• Career Recruitment Exhibit: Learn about national, regional, and local demands for highly skilled RRTs. Respiratory care is a rapidly growing career field, and SRTC’s graduates are highly sought-after, the college said. The exhibit will be open 1-3 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday in the Upper Atrium of Building A.
• Lecture on Sleep Disordered Breathing: Bring a lunch for a free presentation on sleep disorders, 12:15-1:15 p.m. Wednesday in Building C, Room 103. This educational lecture will be of interest to anyone who is concerned about his or her breathing while they sleep, or that of their loved ones.
• Fall Treats and Program Tour: An autumn treat and tour of the Respiratory Care program will be held 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Thursday in Building C, Room 107.
