DALTON, Ga. — A 25-year-old woman called 911 shortly before midnight Saturday night and told an operator she had shot her father “because he was molesting my son. I walked in and saw him.” A news release from Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood, however, said the “evidence collected at the scene did not support” Hannah Celese Henderson’s version of what happened at 4045 S. Dixie Highway that led to the shooting death of 50-year-old George Samuel Henderson.
Hannah Henderson was charged Sunday afternoon with murder (family violence), possession of meth and possession of a firearm during the
commission of a felony. George Henderson died from “multiple” gunshot wounds, according to Chitwood. Hannah Henderson told the 911 operator she shot her father in the head with a .38 caliber revolver, “I think.”
“Uh, yeah, I just shot my dad,” Hannah Henderson said when her call was answered by 911, according to a recording of the call obtained by the Daily Citizen-News through an open records request.
“We were arguing and we were fighting and the gun was there and we were fighting over it and I shot him because I thought he was going to shoot me,” Henderson, who said she carries the gun because she operates a food truck, said.
Asked if her father had a gun, she said, “No, it was the same gun, there was only one.”
“I drive a food truck, so I keep it (the gun) laying with my stuff on the counter in the kitchen,” she said. “I keep it in a case so the baby can’t get to it.”
George Henderson’s sister, Frankie Shipman, said her brother would have never done anything to hurt his grandchild.
“The allegations that she is accusing him of are very untrue,” Shipman said. “My brother … that child was his entire world. I know his name has been smeared by her and I can bring over 100 people who could testify to how much his grandbaby meant to him. I just want the public to know that those allegations are completely false. He would never hurt his grandbaby.”
According to an incident report from the sheriff’s office, deputies found Hannah Henderson in the driveway when they arrived, and a deputy saw bloody footprints in the carport as he was moving toward the carport door. Hannah Henderson told deputies her father was in the kitchen.
Inside, a deputy saw a man later identified as George Henderson lying on the kitchen floor “who appeared to be deceased” with “what looked to be the exit hole of a bullet wound on the right side of Mr. Henderson’s head.” Blood was on the floor and on the walls of the kitchen, and a “black in color pistol” was found beside George Henderson with bloody footprints leading from the kitchen to the carport.
Detective Dewayne Holmes is leading the investigation.
Hannah Henderson is being held without bond in the county jail.
