Council schedules Wednesday city manager vote

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — In addition to all the other havoc brought on by Hurricane Michael, finalists for the Thomasville city manager position who were be in Thomasville last week will be here Tuesday and Wednesday.
City council is expected to vote Wednesday on who the next city manager will be.
“Should we have a consensus and feel ready to make a decision, we will consider a motion to select a final candidate and extend an offer for the city manager position to the final candidate in Wednesday afternoon’s called council meeting,” said Mayor Greg Hobbs.
Final candidates are J. Alan Carson, of Lexington, North Carolina; Ron H. Rabun, of Griffin; and Suzanne E. Sherman of Palm Bay, Florida.
On Tuesday, finalists will tour:
• Downtown area
• City facilities
• Thomasville Center for the Arts/MacIntyre Park/City Schools
• Remington Avenue recreation complex
• Flowers Foods corporate headquarters
• Archbold Medical Center
• Neighborhood areas throughout Thomasville
• Plantation Oaks Industrial Park
• Genesis Food Park/Caterpillar
Candidates will meet with City of Thomasville employees who report to the city manager. Employees also will have an opportunity to ask candidates questions.
A community reception will be at the Thomasville Center for the Arts, 600 E. Washington St., from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Candidates will be available for introductions. Residents wanting to provide feedback or comments to his or her council member may do so at the reception or by making personal contact by email or telephone.
Council members will conduct final individual interview sessions with each candidate Wednesday morning. City council will convene a called session at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday and go into a closed session to conduct the interviews.
The closed session will end with council and search consultant Renee Narloch discussing their final decisions. A second called council meeting, which will be open to the public, is planned for 4 p.m. The afternoon meeting also will be live-streamed on Thomasville.org.
