Hurricane watch issued for Colquitt County

The National Weather Service has issued severe weather watches that affect Colquitt County in response to the formation of Hurricane Michael.

A tropical storm watch was issued at 5:16 a.m. Monday to include Colquitt County. A tropical storm watch means tropical storm-force winds are possible somewhere within the area within the next 48 hours.

According to some sources, that was followed by a hurricane watch around 11:30 a.m. Monday. A hurricane watch means hurricane-force winds are possible somewhere within the area within the next 48 hourss.

The hurricane watch was posted to weather.com, which cited the National Weather Service’s Tallahassee office. However, the most recent information about the storm on the NWS’s website for the Tallahassee office was dated 5:43 a.m. Monday.

The statement on weather.com said a peak wind forecast is 35-45 miles an hour with gusts up to 65 miles an hour Wednesday morning until early Thursday morning, but there is a potential for wind 74 to 110 miles an hour.

The bulletin also calls for 4 to 8 inches of rain with locally higher amounts.
