MOULTRIE, Ga. — A hurricane churning its way up the Florida side of the Gulf of Mexico is expected to bring its biggest winds to Colquitt County on Wednesday.
Residents can expect a blustery time of it throughout that day — Hurricane Michael has strengthened and is now a Category 3 storm — with the serious impacts starting to be felt here some time between 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Those times are subject to change, based on the speed at which Michael travels, said Russell Moody, Colquitt County emergency management director.
The storm is expected to bring sustained winds of 40 to 50 miles per hour to Colquitt County, with gusts of up to 60 miles per hour, on Wednesday.
As more information is known officials will announce when schools will be closed and the hours of a curfew, if needed, to try to keep motorists off of dangerous roads. Sightseers also can hinder the work of emergency workers looking to clear roadways and restore electrical power to residents.
