Elderly woman remains in fair condition after mauling

- Two of three dogs seized after an attack on an elderly woman Friday morning are seen at the Humane Society of Moultrie-Colquitt County Tuesday. MOULTRIE, Ga. — One of three dogs put under quarantine following the Friday morning mauling of a Moultrie woman may have been the subject of an earlier complaint.
Mary Davis, 71, was attacked some time before 3 a.m. Friday while walking in the 700 block of Ninth Avenue Southeast, according to Moultrie police. She suffered severe injuries to her face, police said.
An Archbold Medical Center spokeswoman said Tuesday that Davis remains in fair condition.
After the attack the Humane Society of Moultrie-Colquitt County took control of three dogs thought to have been involved.
The largest dog, which was thought to be the major aggressor in the attack, was a brown Labrador retriever mix. It also appears to be part bulldog.
That dog may have been reported to the Moultrie Police Department previously, Humane Society Director Dawn Blanton said on Tuesday. Police passed that report on to the Humane Society.
Animal control officers searched the area for the dog that matched the description of the brown Labrador mix after receiving the report but did not locate it, she said.
“We had a possible previous complaint,” she said. “We never saw the dog.”
The brown Labrador mix and two others, an American bulldog-mix breed and beagle mix, are under a 10-day quarantine because the Humane Society does not know whether or not they have up-to-date rabies vaccinations. It is the first time any of them have been at the Humane Society.
The police investigation into the attack remains open, police Lt. Freddie Williams said on Tuesday.
