The Colquitt County Arts Center is excited to announce the Peach State Opera Performance of La Bohème which will include members of the A Capella Choir as the ensemble and chorus. Students will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to perform with a professional opera company.  Students have been working on the music, gathering their costumes and preparing for this performance for several weeks now. The students will be in rehearsal Friday evening, most of the day Saturday and will appear in the second act of the production on Sunday afternoon.

Peach State Opera is a touring company that shares the thrill of live opera with small communities in Georgia and its surrounding states by presenting exciting and portable English-language productions. Peach State Opera resides at the Clarkston campus of Georgia Perimeter College as one of the college’s “Artist Affiliate” organizations. Artistic Director Evelyn Hughes incorporates emerging professional singers into the casts, giving them valuable experience as well as the performing credits necessary for a burgeoning career.

La Bohème is the passionate, timeless, and indelible story of love among young artists in Paris, and can stake its claim as the world’s most popular opera. It has a marvelous ability to make a powerful first impression and to reveal unsuspected treasures after dozens of hearings. At first glance, La Bohème is the definitive depiction of the joys and sorrows of love and loss; on closer inspection, it reveals the deep emotional significance hidden in the trivial things—a bonnet, an old overcoat, a chance meeting with a neighbor—that make up our everyday lives. The single performance will take place on Sunday, October 7th at 3 PM at the Withers Auditorium on the campus of the old high school on 319 bypass. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children up to 10 years of age. Tickets can be purchased at the Arts Center or online through our website www.colquittcountyarts.com, or from a member of the A Capella choir.

There will also be a silent auction in the lobby of the auditorium as part of the fund raising efforts of the Tempo Club for their trip this spring. Lodging for the Opera Company is being sponsored in part by Sterling Physicians Group.

Skip ahead a week and you will find the Arts Center on the Square downtown Moultrie on Saturday, October 13th, for our annual Artoberfest celebration. There will be local and regional artists with one of a kind works for sale, live demonstrations and entertainment on the stage from 2-8 PM. There will also be a community art project hosted by the Federated Guild and free children’s hands on art projects. There will be a door hanger painting opportunity for folks to create a Football or Georgia Bulldog Bone for a small fee.

ANNIE Kids with a cast of 38 Kindergarten through 5th grade students will take the stage Thursday, October 11th at 7 PM and again Saturday, October 13th and Sunday, October 14th at 2 PM.  This abbreviated version of this classic musical is perfect for young audience members and a great introduction to live theater. The cast and crew will also offer school field trip performances on Friday, October 12th at 9 AM and 11 AM.
