LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Come join NAMI for Walk on Oct. 6

Published 10:43 am Wednesday, September 26, 2018

October 6, 2018 is an important day in our community.  We will host NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Walks Southwest Georgia.  The purpose of this event is to promote mental health awareness and to raise funds to support mental health resources.  Mental illnesses affect us all, either directly or indirectly.  Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has reminded us that early diagnosis is so important because the earlier a mental illness can be detected, treatment can begin and the better off that person can be for the rest of his or her life. Mental health refers to how we think, feel, and behave.  Mental health disorders can develop at any age and may affect any one of us.  I encourage all to help remove the stigmas associated with mental health diseases and to be positive forces in supporting those who suffer.

It is amazing what positive mental health strides have been made in our own community through the dedicated efforts of the NAMI initiative. Come and be a part of the Walk to help keep the momentum going forward!
