Two arrested in Quitman slaying

QUITMAN — Two people have been arrested in connection with an Aug. 12 death in Brooks County, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Demetrius Antwan Parson, 30, was arrested Aug. 31 at the Quitman Police Department, according to a GBI statement. He is charged with felony murder and aggravated assault, according to the statement.

Jay Collin Brown, 27, was arrested Sept. 7 in Lauderhill, Fla., by U.S. marshals and is charged with felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the GBI.

At about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 12, the GBI was called out to help Quitman police, according to another GBI statement. Jasmine Davis, 30, was found shot off South Culpepper Street in Quitman. A passerby called police after finding Davis around 10:20 p.m., according to the statement.

EMTs responded and Davis was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the GBI said.
