THOMASVILLE, GA. — A 22-year-old Thomasville man died early Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle vehicle on Ga. 33 in northeast Thomas County, authorities said.

It is believed Dave’y Davis fell asleep at the wheel of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala he was driving, said Thomasville Post 12 Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Andrew Davidson.

“He struck a culvert, then a tree,” the trooper said.

After striking the culvert, the vehicle launched a short distance and struck the tree. Impact with the tree caused the car to rotate counterclockwise. The vehicle landed on the east side of the highway, facing west.

Davidson said Davis, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene in the 7 a.m. crash.

A back seat passenger suffered facial lacerations and fractured cheekbones, the trooper said. He said the passenger was dazed after the crash and could not recall if he had worn a seatbelt. The passenger was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital and admitted

The front seat passenger, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered a forehead injury. The trooper did not know if the passenger was admitted at Archbold.
