City completes railroad crossing work

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The City of Moultrie announced Monday that it had completed resurfacing of several railroad crossings that had been removed in a project that began in August of last year.

“We were able to complete the project five months ahead of schedule,” said Engineering Director Greg Monfort.

The track will remain in use where it crosses First and Second Avenues Northeast, but they’ve been resurfaced.

Other crossings that have been removed or repaired include those on:

• East Central Avenue.

• Fifth Avenue Southeast.

• Sixth Avenue Southeast.

• Hillcrest.

• 12th Avenue Southeast.

• 15th Avenue Southeast.

• 26th Avenue Southeast.

Delays in finishing the last few crossings — especially on Fifth Avenue Southeast — had prompted residents to speak out at the last two city council meetings.
