THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Brookwood Warriors took care of business quickly and efficiently Friday night against Notre Dame Academy.

The Warriors scored on their first five possessions and rolled to a 45-0 victory against the visiting Fighting Irish, improving their record to 3-1 on the season.

“We came off a great win and you wonder if can put two games back-to-back,” said Warriors head coach Shane Boggs. “In all aspects of the game, we had a purpose. We were pretty sharp for a while. We got a little sloppy in the second quarter. But I’m really proud of how they came out and took care of business.”

The Warriors took the lead barely 75 seconds into the game, when Joe Parker connected with Jacob Lauderdale on a 21-yard touchdown pass.

On Brookwood’s next series, the Warriors went 72 yards in eight players. Parker hit Nic Lauderdale on a crossing route, and Nic Lauderdale darted 33 yards for the touchdown.

Bridger Middleton’s 1-yard run with 1:57 left in the first quarter gave the Warriors a 21-0 lead.

Brookwood’s defense got into the scoring act as Notre Dame quarterback Thomas Mlakar was hit, and Ethan Myers picked off the pass at midfield, racing 50 yards for the score.

Myers set up the next touchdown, picking off another pass at the Warriors 27 and producing a 68-yard return. Parker hit Kurtis Brown on the very next play for a 35-0 lead with 6:10 left in the half.

Notre Dame and Brookwood traded fumbles on the next two plays, and the Irish also had two interceptions late in the first half. 

But an irish turnover to start the second half led to Jonathan Burns’ 36-yard field goal, and Collin Clark capped the scoring with a 3-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors, going extensively with reserves in the second half, kept the shutout intact. Mlakar took a bad snap and managed to pick up 41 yards. But on fourth-and-7 at the Brookwood 19, Izayah Fuller was stopped for a 3-yard gain.

“It’s a huge goal of ours to get that shutout,” Boggs said. “Ultimately, it puts a lot of pressure on those guys coming in. We had everybody in the game at that point. But they need to play under that kind of pressure. I’m really proud of how they responded to that pressure.”

Brookwood held Notre Dame to 104 total yards and six first downs. The Fighting Irish, making a long trip from the northern suburbs of Atlanta, dressed 17 players for the game. 

The Warriors racked up 285 yards, 226 coming in the first half, and 13 first downs. The large lead induced a running second-half clock and enabled Boggs to play everyone in uniform.

“They are going to be a good team. It’s going to take them some time,” Boggs said of the Irish, who have former Atlanta Falcons running back Ken Oxendine on their coaching staff. “We try to make everything about us. Regardless of who you’re playing, you have to have the same purpose, the same mindset and I was proud of how we did that.”
