TIFTON — Two local comics, cards and collectibles shops in Tifton are teaming up to put on the first Tri-Co. Collectible Show on Sat. Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at 41 and Main in downtown Tifton.
Comics and Cards, Inc. of Tifton, which used to be called JJ’s Comics, has been located at 705 3rd Street in Tifton for at least 20 years.
They are partnering with The Zone Collectibles and More, which opened up at 305 Main Street in March of this year.
Andrew Elder, store manager at Comics and Cards Inc of Tifton, said that the goal of the event is to try something new.
“We really just wanted to bring something to Tifton that has never really been done before,” he said. “That’s the biggest part of it, but also the exposure factor is going to be key. There’s still people in Tifton that don’t know we’re here.”
Comics and Cards, Inc. focuses on new comics and cards, as well as card games like Magic: The Gathering and tabletop games like Warhammer.
The Zone, on the other hand, deals mainly with vintage comics and collectibles from every decade, spanning a wide variety of interests from old cars, movies and TV shows to Lego sets and dolls.
Kevin Clady, who owns and runs The Zone Collectibles and More with his family, said that they want to bring people together.
“We’re trying to create a family event where multiple generations can talk about their collecting passions,” Clady said.
He said that it’s an opportunity for people to share the things they love, be it comic books new and old, baseball cards, Legos or Star Wars, with others who love them just as much.
Both Elder and Clady agreed that 41 and Main has the perfect space for the event.
“We’re testing the waters,” Elder said. “If this works out well we plan on doing other ones and maybe even a bigger one down the road.”
The event is free to attend and is open to the entire community. Attendees will be eligible for door prizes and drawings, will be able to browse for collectibles, see cosplayers and watch game demonstrations.
There will be giveaways every half hour for the duration of the event as well as a drawing for one gift basket from Comics and Cards, Inc. and one from The Zone.
