Suwannee's Jaquez Moore stretches for the end zone against Ribault last year at Langford Stadium. The Bulldogs will host the Trojans once again next week.

LIVE OAK, Fla. — The Bulldogs will get to stay at the Dog House for one more week.

Suwannee’s district football game against Ribault next Friday, Sept. 14, originally scheduled to be played in Jacksonville, has been moved to Paul Langford Stadium in Live Oak.

According to the Suwannee High School Athletics Facebook page, the change comes due to recent events in Jacksonville, including a shooting following a high school football game Aug. 24 between Raines and Lee high schools that left one person dead and two others injured.

“There has been some concern about the football game scheduled for Ribault High School due to current events in Jacksonville,” athletic director Mike Braun said in the post. “In order to alleviate those concerns, both schools have decided to change the venue of the game.

“The game will be handled like all home games, with the exception of season tickets. There will be no season tickets for this game.”

The Bulldogs joined the Trojans in District 3-5A in 2015. The two teams have played some good games since then and maintained their spot as the frontrunners in the five-team district.

With the way things are shaping up this season, it looks like the district champion will once again come down between SHS and Ribault.

“Anytime you can play at home, that’s what you like. More familiar territory. Our guys are excited about it,” said Suwannee coach Kyler Hall.

“It’s going to be a big game. It’s going to come down to special team, turnovers, things like that —which most big games do.”
